If you actually take care of push lawn mowers properly from the day purchased they will provide dependable service for many years to come.  Plus of course through the right maintenance routines you are ensuring that the amount of work that needs to be carried out to repair or replace parts on them is reduced.  So at the end of the day you could end up saving yourself quite a considerable sum.

So what sorts of things should you be doing to make sure that you take care of the push lawn mower you have purchased?  In this article we look at some of the things that you can do to ensure that you take proper care of your Scotts, Snapper or John Deere lawn mower.

Point 1 -  It is important that following each use of the mower that you wipe it down as the cleaner it is then of course the much longer it will last.  Plus cleaning and also applying some oil or lubricant to the various moving parts will help to keep them in tip top condition so that they work more efficiently.  When applying the oil or lubricant don’t just do the parts of the mower you can see such as the cutting surface but also do the cutting rear axle shaft and the wheels.

Point 2 – Prior to you starting to mow your lawn with this type of lawn mower make sure that any debris (paper, stones) and obstacles are removed from it.  This will help to ensure that no damage is caused to the blades of the mower as you cut the grass.

Point 3 – It is a good idea prior to mowing your lawn with push lawn mowers to check the blades to make sure that they are the right height.  To do this just turn the mower upside down and then insert a piece of paper between the cutter bar and the blades then very slowly and carefully turn the blade reel by hand.    Only adjust the blades should you discover that they cut the paper intermittently and adjust only the side of the blades where the problem is.

Point 4 – It is worth at the time of purchasing push lawn mowers to also purchase a kit that allows you to sharpen the blades as well.  If unsure what kind to purchase then ask the sales staff or look through the manufacturers literature that comes with your machine.
