Lawn Mower Deck

When cutting your lawn every part of the lawn mower you use whether it be a cylinder, hover or rotary lawn mower needs to be cared for.  You may not believe it but even the lawn mower deck requires the right amount of care in order for to work properly.

You may not think that spending a few minutes after each time you have used say your Snapper Lawn Mower cleaning this part of it can help to ensure that it works efficiently in the future.  Plus spending this time cleaning your lawn mower deck can help to increase the life span of your machine as well.

Another reason for taking care of this part of your lawn mower is that the blades will not tear the grass instead of cutting them.  So of course your lawn will look much better and will be far healthier.  Whereas if the grass is torn there is more chance of it being damaged by disease, fungus or infestation.

Below we take you through the steps you need to carry in order to clean the lawn mower deck correctly.

Step 1 – If yours is a petrol powered machine then empty the gas from the tanks and disconnect the spark plugs.  This is to ensure that the machine won’t suddenly turn on whilst your hands are working around the blades.  Whilst with electric models make sure that they are disconnected from their power supply.  After doing this you need to stand the mower on its side.

Step 2 – To help loosen any dirt or any grass remaining from when you previously cut the lawn get a hose and spray the deck of your lawn mower with it on full blast.

Step 3 – After helping to loosen off any dirt or debris on the lawn mower deck you now need to wash it.  To do this get a bucket in which you have some warm water and detergent (any household one will do).  Now take a brush that you have dipped into the detergent solution and scrub the deck down.

Step 4 – Finally after scrubbing with the detergent you should now rinse the deck of say your Snapper lawn mower off with clean water.  Then following this leave the lawn mower on its side so that the deck can air dry for at least an hour.  Now your lawn mower is ready to use once more.
