Lawnmower BladesDo you want the lawn in your backyard to look good and for the grass to remain in good condition throughout the year? Then it is important that you take care of your lawn mower correctly and make sure that all parts especially the lawnmower blades are well maintained. It is important to remember that over time the blades on any mower are going to become blunt over time. If they do then the way in which they cut the grass will be badly affected. So it is vital that before and after each use you do check the blades to make sure that they are in tip top condition. If you do discover that the blades on say your John Deere Lawn Mower or Scotts Lawn Mower have been dull then now is the time to get them sharpened. However, if you notice that the blades have become nicked or dented then this is when you should be considering replacing them altogether. Such parts should be easily obtainable from your local DIY, hardware or garden equipment store. But if you are having problems sourcing the blades you need locally then go online instead. When it comes to sharpening the blades on your lawn mower it is important that you carry out this task very carefully. The first thing that you must do before anything else is ensure that the power supply for the machine has been turned off completely. So when it comes to petrol powered models take out the spark plugs. Whereas for the electric models including the cordless varieties make sure the machine is not plugged in to a power source or the batteries have been removed. After doing this the blades can be taken out, again be careful when your hands are near the lawnmower blades as you loosen the nut that holds them in position with a spanner. It would in fact be advisable to wear a pair of sturdy work or garden gloves as you do this. Once you have removed them from the lawn mower you put them in a vice or place on a sturdy work surface to allow you to then sharpen them. The best way of sharpening them is using either a file or a grinder. If you are at all worried about doing this yourself then arrange for your local DIY or garden centre to do it instead. Then once sharpened they need to be fixed back on to the machine. |
